Hi,
In my computer task manager is disabled, i have used the above link but it did not worked out.
My task manager is disabled after scanning or using anti spyware, it enable’s but did not work when i click on it.
Need help on it.
Regards
Azeem
The situation’s pretty simple. If you right click on the clock in the Windows taskbar, the Task Manager item is grayed out:
Or, if you try to run taskmgr.exe manually, you get this message:
So, how did this happen?
As we’ll see in a moment, there are settings you can access as an administrator that would allow you to disable and enable Task Manager in this way.
You didn’t do that, you say?
Then a virus probably did.
Disabling Task Manager is one way viruses try to make it harder for you to deal with their infections. Before proceeding any further, you should run a complete and up-to-date anti-virus scan of your machine. It’s possible, perhaps even likely, that you’ve been infected.
Once you come back virus-free, you can proceed with the fix.
•
If you have Windows XP Pro, there’s a nifty user interface to directly edit the setting you want to repair. Click Start, then click Run and type in gpedit.msc:
And press OK. This runs the Group Policy Editor.
Once in the Group Policy Editor, expand in turn:
User Configuration
Administrative Templates
System
Ctrl+Alt+Del Options
You should see something much like this:
Double click on Remove Task Manager to change its setting:
It should be enough to click on Not Configured and then OK and Task Manager is available once again.
•
If you don’t have Windows XP Pro, then you’ll need to edit the registry manually.
Click Start, then click Run, type in regedit, and click on OK.
Expand these registry keys in turn:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Policies
System
You should see something similar to this:
Right Click on the DisableTaskMgr item:
Click on Delete, confirm that you want to delete, and Task Manager should be available once again.

Hello everybody, thanks for your feedback. It really encourages to get ourselves going on with the new solutions.
murali, can you tell me what was missing in the solution above?
Tanx guy! It works perfectly. I ve been fighting on these preblems for the past 3 days.
Ive tried 4 different methods including TM fix 1.0 . Nothing works.
Even checked my ad aware but its fine.
Im really in big trouble. Like post #2 here it seem.
I used TM-fix and run the command “REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableTaskMgr /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f” as well, it stopped the error and tries to load the task manager, but it crashes within 2 secs. And the CPU is heavily loaded, but since cant use task Manager, dont know what is consuming the CPU power. Help needed
Rajdeep if TM-fix does not work then you can download procexp a replacement for Task Manager see this post A Task Manager, Startup Manager,Ports Monitor, File Monitor, Windows Updates Lister

I have a major bad spyware problem right now and i am running 2 programs to fix it
Ive tried 10 different ways to enable the task manager and still it goes back to disabled…any ideas….my computer is really screwed up}:(
i found this somewhere. this might help..not so sure..but worth a try.goodluck.
Virus scan, spybot, and ad-adware will not detect the problem. The problem is a worm called W32/bropia.worm gen that you get from email. The reason that virus scan does not detact the worm is that system restore is still running. 1) first disable system restore in the control panel. 2) then restart your computer and run virus scan to get rid of the worm. you can restart system restore later. Run all the other scanin g systems you have to .
I have the same problem, but with Windows XP Home Edition,
How can I fix, all the help is for windows XP Prof, but Can any Body helme with this problem with Windows XP Home Edition

Sometimes while I’am playing, I am just being alt+tabbed automatically always.

THANKS A MIL. IT WORKED PERFECTLY FOR ME! I KEEP GETTING A SECURITY WARNING ON MY COMPUTER REGARDING SPYWARE. I AM UNABLE TO DELETE THE PROGRAM FILE SYSCLEANER. ANY IDEAS?
no task manager and no ffolder option in tools.even gpedit.msc is not running.
Tried the Regedit and the gpedit and both kept reseting. Got my computer re formatted. Problem gone. As I slowly installed programs over the next few weeks, no problem till I once again installed Itunes. couldn’t fix the problem by going back to a recent restore point. So tried your format – first the gpedit, then the gpupdate /force and then the regedit. It worked, thank you thank you thank you. You saved me money getting the system fixed again.
Thanks a lot !!! Now I can open my task manager
thankyou so much!

hi there,
thanks for all the help you r giving.
my card reader shows the following message: winudp64.exe there is no disk in the drive
If steps listed above won’t work you can try registry fix http://fixexe.com/fix-task-manager-disabled-by-administrator/ It worked for me!
In my case, Task Manager, Registry, & Folder Options are disabled. wscript.exe & auto.vbs runs in the background whenever i check it using msconfig. I’ve had this freaking problem 3-4 times already. I have updated AV & AS software but still get infected. So frustrating.
I’ve done a lot of research tried a lot of these so-called “solutions” but most have solutions on restoring what is disabled by the administrator but don’t you think what’s important first is how to remove the damn virus before restoring the disabled functions? Apparently, nothing works really.
It all ends up me reformatting my PC as a solution. However, I can’t reformat my PC every time it gets infected.
Just want the real experts out there to share their information. What kind of virus/trojan/worm/spyware is this? What’s the real solution?
as
I M NOT ABLE TO GET HIDDEN FOLDERS ..WHEN I GOTO TOOLS>FOLDER OPTIONS>SHOW HIDDEN FOLDERS>APPLY I M NOT GETTING HI9DDEN FOLDERS ..AFTER THAT I AGAIN WENT TO FOLDER OPTIONS .. IT IS STILL IN DO NOT SHOW HIDDEN FOLDERS PLEASE SEND THE SOLUTION FOR ash.rajish@yahoo.in

Thanks soooo much!!!! Awesom site!

To whom ever can help,
I’m running my computer as the administrator. Though whenever I run spybot search and destroy, 3 items are not being fixed because the message says that I need to run the scan as an administrator and basically I’m not authorized to fix these problems until I do run the computer as an administrator. What do I do? Can anyone help please? Thank you!
